Horgan, Merry Doyle & Daly Receive Reel Art Funding
03 Mar 2009 |

Directors Conor Horgan (About Beauty), Sé Merry Doyle (John Henry Foley - Sculptor of the Empire) and Fergus Daly (The Art of Living), have been announced as the recipients of the Arts Council’s Reel Art Awards.
The documentary scheme, Reel Art, is an Arts Council initiative which funds documentaries focusing on an artistic theme.

'The Beholder', to be directed by Conor Horgan and produced by Martha O'Neill of Wildfire Films, explores the world of contemporary Irish portrait artists.

Director Sé Merry Doyle and producers Martina Durac and Vanessa Gildea are behind the doc 'Flight to Freedom'’ – which follows Irish based animator Jimmy Murakami to the US prisoner of war camp where he spent his childhood. The film makers along with Murakami and DOP Paddy Jordan will travel to California at the start of May.

The third film is 'Outliving Dracula: Film Versions of Carmilla', directed by Fergus Daly and produced by Katherine Waugh. The film will explore the film adaptations of the vampire novel 'Carmilla' by 19th century Irish ghost story writer Joseph Thomas Sheridan Le Fanu.

Romyism of the day

Mar. 3rd, 2009 | 10:29 am

Another pearl from my five-year-old niece:

This evening, sitting quietly in the bath, she remarked:
"I get my best ideas when I'm wet"

More Romyisms

Feb. 26th, 2009 | 12:02 pm

My sister passes on the latest pearls from my five-year-old niece:

She came home from school and told her father she'd heard all about God, what he was/ did etc. Then, after a pause of perfect comic timing, she said "But that's just ridiculous!"

You know the hat she wears constantly? She says she wants to be cremated with it....

The other day I was very cross with her and pulled her up from the floor to put her on time out. She started yelling (genuinely upset) "Daddy! DADDY! Stop your wife!!!"

Legal quotes of the day

Jan. 22nd, 2009 | 10:44 pm

"Possibly not, m'Lud, but you are much better informed"

F.E. Smith to a judge who had failed to understand one of the barrister's lengthy legal speeches. The judge told Smith:' I have listened to you, Mr. Smith, but I am none the wiser'

and another

"It is not for me, m'Lud, to attempt to fathom the inscrutable workings of Providence."

F.E.Smith to Judge Willis after the judge had interrupted his lengthy discourse, asking 'What do you suppose I am on the bench for, Mr. Smith?'

both from Scorn - The Anthology, by Mathew Parris
